Sea Kayak Safety
This is the one Seafreedom course where you will definitely get really wet!
The objective is to enable you to enjoy sea paddling, confident that you won't become a statistic. And by the way, it's great fun!
The course starts indoors, with an illustrated discussion of the safety issues associated with sea kayaking and how to avoid problems. But as soon as possible we will get out on the water and start to work on defensive skills.
We will cover:
At the end of the session we will discuss the learning points of the day and review equipment and methods of (if all else fails) summoning help.
For these trips, we usually start about 10:30 and finish about 16:30 depending on tides, weather and how keen you are.
Equipment
If you have your own kayak we strongly recommend that you bring it along. Even if you opt to use ours, we can review your kayak for safety. If we use Seafreedom equipment, we will use P&H Capella or WS Tempest sea kayaks with drop skegs and possibly a Northshore Shoreline.
If required, Seafreedom will provides the kayak, the paddle, a spray deck, buoyancy aid (PFD), paddling jacket and essential safety equipment.
You will need to bring shoes or sandals that don't matter, two layers of thermal top or fleece and something like track suit trousers or shorts. for this course only, a wet suit or dry suit is strongly advised. A nice big flask with a warm drink would be a smart idea.
Full information will be provided when you book.
